Unable to understand why Section A answer is last and Section C answer is first. Please help
Dream009 Here's how I'd approach this question:

The Key Distinction:

  • Section A: Must satisfy ALL three points of the topic:
    1. Causes of hunger
    2. How humanity can help abolish world hunger
    3. How science can help abolish world hunger
  • Section C: Satisfies NONE of these three points

Evaluating the Critical Options:

First option → Section C:
"A leading global politician's address on why abolishing world hunger should be the primary endeavor for the United Nations."

  • Causes of hunger? (discusses importance/priority, not causes)
  • How humanity helps? (not addressed)
  • How science helps? (not addressed)
  • Result: Section C (satisfies \(0\) out of \(3\) points)

Last option → Section A:
"A college student's brief talk on how science and humanity can collectively eliminate the root cause of world hunger."

  • Causes of hunger? ("root cause of world hunger")
  • How humanity helps? ("humanity can...eliminate")
  • How science helps? ("science...can...eliminate")
  • Result: Section A (satisfies \(3\) out of \(3\) points)

Strategic Framework for Similar Questions:

  1. Write down the exact criteria (the three points in this case)
  2. Create a literal checklist for each option
  3. Only mark criteria as satisfied if explicitly addressed

I hope this clears your doubt? If you still feel confused about something here, feel free to ask! :)

Dream009 yes, it mentions the phrase "abolishing world hunger" but does it talk about the "causes of hunger?" No.

This option talks about why abolishing world hunger should be prioritised by the UN; it nowhere addresses the causes of hunger, which is the one of the three subject matters we need.

Honestly Section C could probably be D as well. D states in regard to scientific advancement "can therefore never abolish world hunger." Where the passage states "how science can help in the abolition of world hunger". Science not helping is not stating how science can help. Difficult due to the likelihood of guessing either of those two.

tomloveless Section C requires content that satisfies NONE of the three points - not just one. You need to check ALL three criteria systematically:

Option D Analysis:
"An economist's speech claiming that scientific advancement, being at the disposal of a select few, causes economic gaps between people, and can therefore never abolish world hunger."

  • Causes of hunger? ✓ YES - identifies "economic gaps between people" as a cause
  • How humanity can help? ✗ No
  • How science can help? ✗ No (argues the opposite)

Even though Option D argues science cannot help, it still addresses causes of hunger, disqualifying it from Section C.

Hold on, I don't completely agree with your reasoning. The economist never said economic inequality is a cause for world hunger. He said that scientfic advancement is limited to a few and that causes economic inequality which in turn will necessitate that science will never be able to solve world hunger. He never talks about the causes of world hunger but is rather concerned about how or why science cannot solve it. Economic inequality may be one of the causes of world hunger but the way it is phrased, I don't think I can make that inference.
