A. Unlike Colombian coffee, which is generally harvested by hand and immediately threshed, much of that harvested in Brazil is different, as it is mechanically done, and not threshed until after drying.

B. Whereas in Colombia coffee is generally harvested by hand and then immediately threshed, in Brazil much of the coffee is mechanically harvested and is dried before it is threshed.

C. In comparison with Colombian coffee, which is generally hand harvested and then threshed immediately, in Brazil much of it is both mechanically harvested and threshed after drying.

D. In contrast with coffee harvesting in Colombia, which is generally by hand and threshed immediately, much of the coffee harvesting in Brazil is done mechanically, and threshing is after drying.

E. Colombian coffee is generally hand harvested, followed by immediate threshing, as opposed to much of Brazilian, which is mechanically harvested and then not threshed immediately afterward.

only B has correct comparison

Thanks. Could you also please elaborate, why is E awkward? I am not able to point any error in the statement.

    E. Colombian coffee is generally hand harvested, followed by immediate threshing, as opposed to much of Brazilian coffee, which is not only mechanically harvested but also is dried before threshing.

(E) is incorrect because of the use of "as opposed to."

"As opposed to" does not mean "unlike."

"As opposed to" means something along the lines of "not" or "rather than," and so, the meaning conveyed by (E) is not logical.

We see see the issue by replacing as opposed to with "not" and with "rather than."

    E. Colombian coffee is generally hand harvested, followed by immediate threshing, not much of Brazilian coffee, which is not only mechanically harvested but also is dried before threshing.

    E. Colombian coffee is generally hand harvested, followed by immediate threshing, rather than much of Brazilian coffee, which is not only mechanically harvested but also is dried before threshing.

Clearly, neither of the above conveys a logical meaning.

Thank you so much. This clarifies.

Can someone please help me understanding the parrallelism in option B for the structure "is generally harvested by hand and then immediately threshed",
How it is correct when "then" is immediately following the conjunction "and", which is not parallel to anything?
