C) their last day scheduled to collect, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers
D) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers
E) the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers

IMO D

The reason is Unlike most severance packages should be compared to automobile severance package and not automobile industry.

You must compare to like things, i.e. severance packages to the company's severance packages. only choice d and e address this.

choice e implies that workers are collecting days

choice d is best.

we want some thing alike to packages after the comma,
unlike X,Y occurs
X and Y should be same
hence eliminate A,B,C right away
Left out are :
D,E
D is awkward.
E is right option
