In my opinion answer should be C

A. Unlike the acid smoke of cigarettes, pipe tobacco, cured by age-old methods, yields an alkaline smoke (Incorrect. Comparing smoke to tobacco)
B. Unlike the acid smoke of cigarettes, pipe tobacco is cured by age-old methods, yielding an alkaline smoke(Incorrect. Comparing smoke to tobacco)

C. Unlike cigarette tobacco, which yields an acid smoke, pipe tobacco, cured by age-old methods, yields an alkaline smoke (Correct)
D. Differing from cigarettes acid smoke, pipe tobaccos alkaline smoke, cured by age-old methods, is (Incorrect. Meaning changed)
E. The alkaline smoke of pipe tobacco differs from cigarettes acid smoke in that it is cured by age-old methods and is (Incorrect. Precedent of pronoun 'it' not clear)

Straight C.
A and B incorrectly compare smoke to tobacco. D implies that smoke is cured by age old methods. Between C and E, E is wordy and awkward. Hence C it is.
