I heard that there is an unofficial, unwritten rule that a 750+ will get you not automatically, but most likely, probably get you in to schools in the 10-20 range. Anybody know of that?

Not at all the case. You need to present a solid application and a solid interview.
Although big, but GMAT is a part of the overall picture. It all depends a host of factors.

Hi vreddy1,

NO GMAT Score (not even an 800) will guarantee anyone a spot at any particular Program. Business School Admissions Officers know that not everyone is a great Standardized Test-taker, which is one of the reasons why the overall application process has so many 'pieces' to it - meaning that you don't necessarily need an amazing GMAT Score to get into a Top Program. In that same way, someone who IS a great Test-taker, but lacks many of the other important attributes that often imply a strong Applicant, likely won't be given an automatic entry (since that person is not as strong an OVERALL Applicant).
