Today is my deadline to accept my application for Schulich Business School at York University in Canada. It is a good school locally with a strong downward trend in most recent years and lacks the international power that I seek.
My dream has always been a US MBA.
I will accept the Schulich offer if I think it is not probable for me to enter a top 15-20 American program. Here is my profile:
- 770 GMAT (51/44, 6.0 AWA, 8.0 IR)
- Chinese-Canadian
- Engineering undergrad at University of Toronto
- 2.25 GPA with no upward trend and one failed semester (minored in business and did average/above-average in those courses)
- When I plan to apply in about 2-3 years, I will have 4-5 years of experience in software, tech consulting, and financial modelling
- I consider writing, interpersonal communication, and interviewing to be my strengths, in addition to my hard skills
- Involved with athletics
I am 24 with 2 years of experience right now. With this basic info, what are my chances of getting into a top 15-20 school when I am 27 with 5 years of work experience?
All feedback, harsh realities, optimistic stories, and comments are welcome
Depending on your overall story, including personal successes as well as your specific job experience, performance and promotions, you could have a good shot at programs in that range in a couple years. The GPA is certainly something to overcome, but with a 770 GMAT, it is definitely possible. I've helped applicants in your position before so I would love to create a strategy with you that would allow us to reach success in a couple years.
While there is nothing wrong with accepting and starting school earlier, you could reach a higher school if you want. Keep me posted!
