Dear Experts,

Whenever "and also" is used in an option in a sentence correction question. Can we directly reject it on the basis of this or it would just be a suspect?

Thanks in advance

Hi
In my opinion use of 'and also' is not incorrect.
You cannot reject it directly. You need to find other errors.

There are no hard and fast rules to SC anymore. it's completely based on expressing correct meaning/logic with the best given grammar. you cannot eliminate an answer choice just because it sounds odd. use of and also is redundant so yeah only if there aren't any other substantial errors in other answer choices, you can reject it

Hi Connor1396, also is just added for emphasis/rhetorical purposes and so, and also construct can definitely be correct; in fact, it would not even be a suspect.

There are numerous examples of in which officially correct answer uses this construct.

For example:

A novelist who turned away from literary realism to write romantic stories about the peasant life and landscape of northern Sweden, Selma Lagerlöf became in 1909 the first woman and also the first Swedish writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature..
