Hi,
I can understand why C) might feel tempting, especially since fuel hedging is also mentioned. But on GMAT main-idea questions, what matters is what the paragraph is mainly about, not what technique is briefly referenced.

Problems with C:
- financial strategies (plural) → the paragraph discusses one strategy briefly
- maintain profitability → not the focus; the paragraph focuses on cost volatility
- market fluctuations → broader than just fuel costs

I did not quite understand the solution. How come D is not the solution- It outlines the primary operational challenges faced by the airline industry.
It does not any way say that there is a range.
Para 1 seems to be implied as a primary challenge since next paras use the words like in addition , further more etc.
Could u pls tell me where is my logic going wrong.
In that case i do not agree with solution B either because the para just uses hedging as a word and strategy.. it does not anywhere describes various effectiveness of hedging. Since the solution uses various word in the option D that makes it incorrect.
I am confused , bb pls help

Question is about finding the Main point of first paragraph not about whole passage so option D is too broad because "primary operational challenges" would include competition, mergers, environmental pressure, customer service investments, etc. Those are discussed in later paragraphs, not in paragraph 1.and "addition" word is mentioned to give you the list of problems faced by airlines and clearly we cannot consider Jet fuel is the primary operational challenge.
For B, the paragraph does mention both ideas:
So B stays within the scope of the paragraph, while D expands beyond it.
