Hi NemXsammy,

Option B suggests that students dislike the healthier entrees and are therefore eating less during lunch, which should ideally lead to reduced obesity. But since the conclusion reports no decrease in obesity, this cannot explain the discrepancy. The idea that students are compensating by eating more food elsewhere is not supported by the passage or this option and relies on an external assumption, making B an unlikely fit.

Option E, on the other hand, states that students are only choosing healthy options occasionally because of the expanded menu. As you mentioned, this could still result in a slight decrease in calorie intake. Since the conclusion mentions a "noticeable decrease in obesity" rather than a precise or dramatic drop, E aligns better and helps explain the outcome.

I did not quite understand the solution. Reasoning for option 2 -
When students are disliking the taste of newly implemented menu, they will look for alternative and/or consume only little food from what is in the menu. This will make them not feel satiated (assumption) and they will go towards purchasing lunch during school time.

I think it fits well in this chronology with the passage. Tell me where is this going wrong.

Reasoning against option 4 -
Increase in food variety makes it harder for students to consistently choose - even if they don't consistently choose the items, they will still be doing it some of the times while eating according to the new guideline. It is like saying, earlier it was 7+7+7+7+7 in a week, now it is 7+4+7+6+7
they are not consistently meeting the same lower count, but still it is lower than the former, so it is decreasing the calorie count, hence obesity over time to some level.

tell me where i am wrong with my reasonings.

Is B revised? or is it still having the old verbatim. See E is not correct. Variety & healthy option with low calorie count are not mutually exclusive.

I see your point. (B) was supposed to be a trap answer but it can be argued to be plausible since school meals and snacks are not exclusive. I have changed (B) completely to make it easier to prove to be incorrect. Thank you. I have also added 2 weeks of GMAT Club Tests to your account for your help.

Thank you for the question. I cleaned up some of the older comments from Feb 2025 so it does not confuse anyone. Everything is latest and revised since Feb 2025.
Agree that variety and low calorie foods are not the same. Thus it is possible to have a greater variety and still have higher calories and obesity.
