I did not quite understand the solution. Where is restriction mentioned in A? What is the difference in A and C?

To be honest I am not a big fan of this question, but there are some important learnings in it, so I will share my two cents.

The first most important thing that you need to understand is what’s the position you needed to weaken ie. editorial’s position. And what is it? That developers removed from the major platforms were not involved in the surge in malicious apps on the independent platforms.

So to weaken this position we need to find some scenario where these developers were responsible for this surge.

After this analysis I would have loved an option which suggested that these developers changed their aliases and released these dummy apps to directly weaken the argument. But here options are a bit smartly structured.

Option C says that new developers started targeting independent marketplaces with totally different set of apps which in no ways ties back to the gap we are trying to search for. Whereas option A by explicitly mentioning legitimate apps indirectly targets that gap by suggesting that similar apps are being pushed so maybe these developers from major platforms influenced or indirectly tied up with these unrelated developers on independent marketplaces to get these similar apps released in market.

I don’t love it because it’s a bit overstretch to tie this indirect gap in the argument and the option but I don’t completely disagree as the logic still holds some substance when you focus on every word in these choices.
