No any other ID Proof except for Passport accepted in India (Based on my experience at Pune's GMAT center)

If you don't have enough time in your hand, you can apply for passport thru TATKAL scheme. Ideally an application sent thru TATKAL should be processed within 8-12 days. In general case it can take 2-4 months to get the passport

Brief about TATKAL
1) This scheme is introduced in order to process exceptional/urgent cases on priority
2) In this scheme authorities issue the passport immediately after document verification and do not wait for applicant's Police clearance certificate to come. However there are two important conditions for this A) A Class one officer (Usually IAS or IPS) has to write an recommendation letter for you expressing your urgent need and guarantee your clean police record B) You have to surrender your passport immediately to passport authorities if anything objectionable found in Police inquiry later
3) The Passport Fee for the application under this scheme is Rs5000 (For normal application it is Rs1500)

Word of caution :- Recently, in Maharashtra, a scandal has been exposed in which some people with criminal records were issued passports under this scheme. The IAS officers on whose recommendations these passports were issued are summoned for inquiry. Media uphold this issue and hence since then IAS officers (especially in Maharashtra) have been reluctant in making such recommendations.

For detailed information you can check here https://portal1.passportindia.gov.in/Ap ... elcomeLink

Regards,

Narenn

Thanks Narenn, i hope i get my passport before my exam date.
Otherwise my 250$ will go to waste

Hey I need some help here.

I registered for my exam but wasn't asked for the passport number at the time of registration. People tell me it generally is asked.

I will, however, be carrying my passport on test day. Will this be enough?

Although I hope they make this work for you somehow, they've been quite clear about this till now. You must have an original and valid passport to take the exam in India. Your driving license will not be enough.

Thanks for the information. The pearson guy outright rejected my appeal when contacted over phone. But, the guy at the test center allowed me to sit for the exam. But as ill luck would have it, my system froze when 5 minutes were left in the quant section and timer ran out. The centre guy took my case and reported to pearson. He gave me a case ID and told to contact pearson over phone and mail to get another shot at the exam by rescheduling it at free, since it was a technical problem and no fault of mine. But, till now I have not received any reply in mail from GMAC Asia-Pacific. Please suggest what to do. I plan to take the exam on 3rd so that I can relax and celebrate on 4th, which is my birthday.

They take a very long time to respond over email. You should call them up. As ccooley pointed out above:
