Vanderbilt offers one of the few Near Elite MBA programs in the South of the United States. Vanderbilt is located in Nashville, Tennessee. The Nashville Economic Area is roughly the 33rd largest economic area in the United States in terms of Personal Income. Academic Year: Semesters divided into 2 modules Graduation Requirements: The "Core" makes up 23 of 61 required credit hours. The first semester is entirely prescribed. Subsequently, students must take 12 credit hours in at least one Concentration. In addition, students can select an 8 credit series called an Emphasis. Hey Sumit/ Others,

Can u throw some more insights on how good is Vanderbilt for IB. Mst ppl say that for schools which r ranked below 20, its hard to get i-bank jobs. I-banks may cm to des schools bt may offer u operational nd other jobs and not the main i-bank job which i m lookin for. Also the location of Vanderbilt is a disadvantage i bel.

I hv an offer from there nd i need to pay my security fee by Feb 15 so i need to dcd real quick. Can u pass me the contacts of the ppl u spk at Owen. Further can i discuss this with u in more detail over phone prov u hv more insights?

I hv been waitlisted at Boston and Rochester nd am awaiting results frm Fisher, USC and UCLA. Ws rejected by Indiana (i think bcoz of my low GMAT score - 660). Thus i am nt expectin mch frm USC and UCLA bcoz i think dey r very high on GMAT. Wht do u hv to say abt Fisher?

In a recent letter from the Dean of Admissions:

The program at Vanderbilt MBA is in a position to move upwards in the rankings and we have been enacting a very aggressive strategy to continue to push the school into the top 20. The admissions statistics fueling the annual US news ranking have moved more than any other school in ranking over the last five years. We are eagerly anticipating the release of this spring’s US News MBA rankings as we are confident that we will be seeing the results of the investments that Owen has been making over the last few years. We were excited to see this week’s Financial Times ranking release, placing Owen among the top 25 MBA programs in the US and highly ranking many of the key career focused factors (including a #5 US ranking for Alumni career progress, placing only behind Stanford, MIT, Columbia and Harvard).

Also, average starting salary for Owen graduates is on par with many of the schools in the top 15.

For anyone who is going to Vanderbilt or has done research on the program, do you think Vanderbilt would offer significant value over a large state school that is normally ranked in the 40-60 range? I would save about 70-80k in tuition costs by going to the state school so I didn't know if others thought that Vanderbilt would add that much more value in terms of prestige, alumni network, career progress, etc. over a large state school program.

I am content at both schools with issues like school location, geographic placement after the MBA, etc.,
