Hi can anyone please tell me which resource/ book to use to improve verbal? My current raw score is V28.

Thank you!

Books are not the concern. There are plenty of books on verbal, grammar etc.

You should identify your own approach, your strengths and weaknesses, and lay out a plan to study within a given time period. I suggest not rushing into purchasing expensive materials before you have done this work. GL!

Hi rashmi0205,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Empower,
I'm preparing for GMAT for good 3 months. Putting in atleast 6 hours each day.
I have used OG as my reference. My mock scores are ranging from 580-650. (Q38-Q47) and (V19-V28).
I'm looking for 710+ score. I'm taking mock since 15 days now.
I'm planning to apply in ISB in 2020.

Hi rashmi0205,

Regarding verbal resources, in addition to chatting with folks in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

If you need any further advice, feel free to reach out.

Good luck!

Hi rashmi0205,

Since you're interested in a 710+ Score (which is a result that 90% of Test Takers never achieve - regardless of how long they study or the number of times that they take the GMAT), I'll need information that is a bit more specific:

1) When I asked about your CAT Scores, I really need the exact results (not "ranges"). On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) How much total time are you typically studying each week?

Hi Empower,
I took CAT on:
24/09- Q48 & V19
30/09- Q47 & V25
09/10- Q44 & V28

I'm planning to take GMAT in December 1st week
And I can give as much time to gmat as required till Dec...atleast 40 hours a week.

Your post is a general post and many people face similar problems. You need to share data on sectional performance in SC, CR, and RC so that experts could recommend a specific action plan.

All the best!

Hi rashmi0205,

To start, your Verbal Scores continue to improve - which is great - but you'll clearly need to score considerably higher in the Verbal section to hit your Overall Score Goal. In contrast, your Quant Scores - while solid - show that while you probably know most of the math content just fine, you are prone to making little mistakes that are costing you a lot of points. This is meant to say that you will need to hone certain strategic skills (and not just learn new Verbal content) to hit 710+.

The OG books are great sources for practice questions, but they're not designed to teach you Tactics, patterns or the little 'secrets' behind the GMAT - for those, you'll need Course-oriented materials.

1) What "steps" do you go through when dealing with a typical RC, SC and CR prompt?

Honestly speaking, resources for GMAT are like the Pacific Ocean. It is pivotal to know how to use a material than how many you use. If you don't have that "know-how', you had better watch out.

Hi Rashmi, which specific section in Verbal, bothers you the most?
