GMATprep scoring confusion

Question

I just attempted gmatprep 1 and scored 640. But the most surprising thing to me was i scored 49 in quant with 10 wrong answers, whereas i scored only 29 in verbal with 13 wrong answers. 
After reading other posts, 49Q with 10 mistakes is making sense. But I'm not sure why I got 29V with 13 mistakes only.

Where did those 13 mistakes come during the test? It is possible that they were placed in a such a way that you were never able to get into the tougher levels of questions.

I agree with you that it doesn't sound quite right, but it's possible depending on the placement of the errors and you ability to get into those tougher questions. Plus, you have to remember that even a few more questions could have made a drastic difference in that score. 2 - 3 more right answers could have potentially boosted your score 50 points. So look at this as a learning experience and look at every question as an opportunity to boost your score.

I got the following questions wrong- 2,4,5,9,11,15,20,21,22,27,30,33,37. Pretty frustrating for me since I expected a 40V. Is it possible that I could have scored 50 points more if I had answered que 20,21,and 22 correctly?

it is hard to tell, since the adaptive nature of the test would imply in a whole different set of questions, ie. if you get the 20th questions right you should get a tougher one afterwards, increasing your odd of getting these on wrong and gearing back questions on your aptitude level. Anyways, it is very likely that a 3 errors sequence brought down you quant score by 1-2 points.

You can miss 50% of the questions and score a 750
You can miss 50% of the questions and score a 600

Strike rate alone is meaningless on the GMAT. You must combine strike rate with difficulty. Back to back incorrect will tank your score and not answering questions will also tank your score.

Don't try to make sense of the # right/wrong on its own. You won't be able to figure it out (none of us can, that's why the GMAC protects its algorithm).
