I decided to create this post for GMAT aspirants with family and work commitments.
I restarted by GMATprep partially in mid-April after learning about the outcomes of my R2 applications from the last admission cycle. I started out with a plan to study for three months: 2 hours/day on weekdays and 5 hours on Saturdays for a total of 15 hours/week. I reserved Sunday for relaxation and family time. However, it has been hard getting a total of 15 hours/week. I am currently averaging 12 hours per week, but wish I could do more. I study for one hour before work in the morning and try to do another one hour after work. I am a morning person, so the one hour of study before work is easy. The one hour after work is where I am really struggling. I make most of my careless mistakes when attempting quizzes while studying after work; mistakes I probably will not make if I was not tired.
For some context, my wife works full time in addition to being enrolled in an online master’s degree, so we are always both occupied with stuffs to do. We got a babysitter to help with our 15-month-old toddler on Saturdays, so I get about 3-5 hours of study time on Saturdays. My plan was to get GMAT out of the way by mid-July, but it is looking unlikely right now since I still have many grounds to cover.
In a nutshell, how can GMAT aspirants with work and family commitments maximize their study times? Please share your experience and/or suggestions.
Thanks!
