After 9+ months of studying (with a couple of short breaks) I finally got a score I'm happy with. However, the score of 6 on the IR section is raising some questions. How heavily weighted is this in admissions? I have another attempt of a 740 composite that I cancelled, but I think the IR score was an 8 (not sure though, and don't think I can check anymore). Would it be worth it to reinstate this score to show a higher IR section to schools?

It’s a good idea to reinstate your 740. Your 770 showcases a growth of 30 points over your already awesome score. It’s a good point for the schools to consider.
Some schools have stated that they take the highest of all the scores, including highest of Quant and Verbal
So, a 740 (Q51, V40) and a 770 (Q49, V48) will be combined and Q51 (from your old score) and V48 from your new score will be considered for evaluation of your candidature. But these scores will not be used to recalculate new overall score.
So, it’s a good idea to submit both the scores and let the school decide. An increment from 740 to 770 will definitely add some value even if IR is not considered.
Kindly do share your Verbal preparation plan and resources that helped you secure an hallowed V48. If you have an ESR that you can submit, it would be a good learning for many aspirants.

Thank you very much for the reply. In my case the Q49 and V48 were higher than the two section scores on my first test (same quant I believe). I wasn't aware that showing the growth between two scores was more advantageous than simply showing the one score, so thanks for that insight.
Unfortunately there wasn't much of a secret here - English is my first language and reading/grammar have come naturally to me my whole life. My two sources were simply OG practice problems (I stuck to hard problems mainly) and the GMAT Ninja Verbal videos which I highly recommend.
