Hey

I have seen in my GMAT related articles, successful candidates referring medium to hard questions. What are these questions and how to find them in GMAT club?

Hi Gagan,

Medium to Hard questions generally include questions of level 650-700 and of 700+. You can apply the filters and find them.

Having said that, if you wish to score 700+ on GMAT, practicing medium-hard questions is not the best way to do it. Before you practice questions, make sure to learn the concepts perfectly and to learn the right methodology to solve questions. Once you are perfect with the methodology, the process of solving remains the same irrespective of the level of the question.

For example, once you learn the right process of solving CR questions, the process of solving remains the same for every level of the question. Most of the CR questions are based on one of the four frameworks:

Plan-goal 
 Comparison 
 Quantitative 
 Causality

Once you understand these frameworks and learn the guidelines to pre-think, you can solve the CR questions with ease without worrying about the difficulty level. You can go through the recording below to understand the right process of solving CR questions.

Working on medium and hard questions is a great idea.

At the same time, consistency, even when answering easy questions, is key to acing the GMAT. In fact, you can get a pretty high GMAT score by getting only the easy and medium questions correct.

So, in addition to practicing answering harder questions, work on achieving essentially 100 percent accuracy on easy questions. In doing so, you'll build a foundation for hitting your GMAT score goal.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes sir this will be the strategy for this attempt, I have just completed OG quant (overall 95% accuracy in PS and 92 in DS) and SC (100% accuracy in easy, 90 % in Medium and 78% in hard), I will be starting CR from tomorrow. If there is any other recommendation you wanna give, please do, help me will be really appreciated.

Also, since you accuracy is pretty high, to take things to the next level, work on streaks. In other words, shoot for getting correct answers in long streaks, such as 20 or more correct in a row for each question type. Long streaks result in high GMAT scores.

If you typically get 15 or more correct in a row for each question type, you'll almost certainly score in the 700s. If you typically get 25 or more correct in a row, you'll likely score in the mid to upper 700s. If you typically get 50 or more correct in a row, you may score 800.

Hello Sir

Thank you for the suggestion, I will surely apply this in my prep this time around. Please suggest me how I should counter quant for a Q50 or 51 (my earlier score is 49 in GMAT) also from where should I practise quant to gain more efficiency.

The way to improve in quant and score Q51 is to master quant topics one at a time until you have mastered the entire quant section. To do so, you would first learn or review concepts related to a topic and then answer dozens of questions involving that topic until you essentially can't get them incorrect. Then you would move on to the next topic and do the same.

Your practice could involve using the streaks method, which involves shooting for streaks 15 or more easy questions correct in a row, 15 or more medium questions correct in a row, and 15 or more hard questions correct in a row for each type of quant question.

Regarding where to find quant questions for practice, there are a variety of quant question banks available, some of which can be found in online GMAT courses. The key thing is to find a source of questions that allows you to work on one topic at a time to master each topic.

Im kinda unsure about my GMAT strategy.
I started studying for the GMAT 6 Weeks ago. My first Gmat mock was 450 and my goal is 680+. I started doing the MGMAT Interact course and got a little better, as I'm currently at 600 (Q40, V33). The problem is, im not really getting any better. I did 3 exams ( all on the Manhatten website), within almost 3 weeks and im still stuck at 600. I think this is mainly due to my inefficiency in time management and a lack of real understanding of the quant concepts being tested. Originally, I wanted to take the exam in two weeks. By now, however, im really stressed out and need some advice wether to take the test or postpone it.

Hi I’m no expert, but I’d suggest you to take gmat official mocks to truly gauge where you are. Manhattan mocks are a bit tougher than official test from what I gather.

Probably you should postpone your test and take it later, when you are truly prepared to hit your score goal.

That said, as Shikhar22 suggested, your next step should be to take one of the free official practice tests found on mba.com to see where you really stand and get a feel for the actual GMAT. Once you have taken that test, you'll have a better sense of how to proceed.

On another note, to reliably score 680+, you likely have to be stronger in quant that you seem to be. To master GMAT quant, you should work on one quant topic at a time, mastering each in turn, by first learning about or reviewing a topic and then doing dozens of questions involving that topic until you practically can't get them incorrect. Once you have mastered one topic, you move on to the next topic and do the same thing.
