I am not sure if I should retake the GMAT. I am worried that a 750 is at the lower end for people with MBB and Ivy League backgrounds, and might disadvantage me. Am I being too paranoid because of my higher scores in the mocks or is there merit in retaking it?
Hi kushuagar,

I don't think that you need to take the GMAT again. That said, there's certainly no harm in going for a retake, so I would take the GMAT again if I were you.

Also, in the last 14-15 months I've seen the number of people preparing for the GMAT (and the average score) go up. The sample size is small, but I think competition at the top schools is intensifying. I'm not sure whether that will still be the case a few years from now, though.

Hi kushuagar,

750 is a great score! By no means do you have to retake the GMAT, but if you would really like to and feel you have a shot of scoring 20 points higher, then you certainly can give it one more attempt. Either way, let us know what you decide. Good luck with things moving forward.

Hi kushuagar,

First off, a 750/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you will be able to comfortably apply to ANY Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is NOT necessary. Since you are interested in some highly-competitive Schools - and you are not planning to apply for several years - you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and your time would likely be better spent improving those other areas - and not trying to raise your already-outstanding GMAT Score a couple of points). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:
