You seem to be getting really deep into the weeds. I can't see how you would be able to process this kind of a complexity and dissecting what is a gerund vs. noun vs verb in the ing form while under the pressure of a test and a timer. ....
It is also helpful to include examples with your question because sometimes things people write don't really mean what they say such as gerund form of the verb, though it acts like a noun.
Anyway, I can think of a few examples such as "The house had a beautiful showing" though I would say my gerund understand is not strong and is ONLY limited to usage of gerund vs. infinitive (simple) form of verbs together with other verbs such as "he likes running" or "he likes to run" - both are correct by the way but there are some examples where only one is such as "he admitted stealing" - correct and "he admitted to steal" incorrect and confusing. Anyway, I never ventured into the modifiers with gerund. Despite my lack of understanding of modifiers and gerund, I managed to hobble a V42

Hi all,
I have a question regarding the noun modifiers .
Is it the case that noun modifiers can only modify the conventional noun forms and not the gerund form of the noun ?
