Hello,
I'm looking for resources to improve my GMAT Quant score, Critical Reasoning in Verbal and IR section. I got a 690 (Q48/V36), and a 5 in IR. I have booked a retake and wanted to hear from anyone who has used certain resources to better their score.
Thank you.

Hey I would actually suggest you to just sign up for the 5 day free TTP course. Since you are already at a Q48 level, you can breeze their content and solve just the medium and hard tests

H DPratima,

First off, a 690/Q48 is a fantastic Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

There's certainly no harm in retesting though - and you have the potential to pick up some meaningful points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When is your next Official Test Date?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Wouldn't say it's impossible to get to a Q51 but it's quite a target. If you have a target score in mind, consider checking out a gmat scoring grid to see what "combo" gets you there most easily.

Hi Pratima,

First of all, congrats on scoring a 690. You can definitely improve your score if you identify what went wrong and work accordingly. The good thing is that you know your weak areas. Let me help you how to proceed with the same.

How to improve Quant score?

As you have not mentioned anything specific, let me tell you the general way of improving your score. You are probably doing most of the things right. It's just that you have to tweak your approach a little in a few topics. You can do that by spending more time on analyzing solutions. By doing that, you will be able to understand the exact step at which you are making the mistake and thereby improve your approach.

How to improve CR skills?

The right way to solve CR questions is to follow a structured process by learning the framework and the guidelines. Most of the CR questions are based on one of the four frameworks, which are:
  • Plan-goal
  • Comparison
  • Quantitative
  • Causality

And each framework has a set of guidelines to pre-think the missing link. Once you identify the framework on which the question is based, the process of solving becomes a lot simpler.

Having said that, I would like to know more about your study strategy and your GMAT preparation. Once I know the time you have and the weak areas, I will be able to guide you in a better way. You can write back to me here or a better way is to get in touch over a call and discuss the same. You can use the link below to schedule a call with me.
