Hi Engineer1,

Kaplan has owned MGMAT for almost 15 years, although the two companies maintained their own separate GMAT products for most of that time. The more relevant issue in your case is that the GMAT has gone through some changes since you last studied for it (the overall Exam is now shorter, you have the opportunity to choose from 3 different 'section orders' and you can take the GMAT outside of a Test Center). While you would probably be okay continuing to use those older books, they are now more than 10 years old at this point - meaning that you would probably benefit in certain ways by using more recently produced materials.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information about your prior studies and your goals:

1) Did you take the Official GMAT during your studies 7 years ago? If you did, then how did you score?
2) Did you use any other study materials besides the books that you mentioned? Do you remember how were you scoring on your CATs/mocks at that time?
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

You - you are right. It was 2010! 😱
I certainly thought it was later than that... but clearly the 2012 edition was after the acquisition and I feel did not really get impacted in much of a way

P.S. Interesting enough, the former MGMAT CEO has gone on to become a presidential candidate (as well as NY Mayor candidate)

He has a pretty impressive Wikipedia page 👍

Which is the highest recommended prep guide to familiarize with the concepts?

Consider checking out the gmatclub study plan post. Variety of resources mentioned over there.

Well, my reply wasn't posted apparently.
Thanks Rich and bb.

Yeah, I had taken GMAT in 2015 and scored 580 once and 620 later, if I remember correctly. I don't recall my mock scores, but I had taken quite a few mocks from OG, Veritas Prep, and Manhattan. I mostly used Crackverbal for the concepts and they helped. I just did not have enough time to do enough preparation for a "good" score.

At this time, I am aiming for weekend/evening MBAs and my target schools are Berkeley Haas, UCLA Anderson, Chicago Booth in that order. So, I need scores accordingly, maybe something close to 700, but my target will be 720+.

Got it. The evening and weekend programs tend to have slightly lower score requirements, but it doesn’t hurt to score high either… I think if you can pull it off to get a 700, that will be plenty. Of course if you’re trying to compensate for lower undergrad, grades, or GPA, the higher, the better but high score of all not automatically get you in as you know. So you want to leave good amount of time to work on the actual applications.

Yes, GPA. I have an MS and hope the GPA there gets noticed. My undergrad engineering GPA isn't impressive for sure. :D Ya, I will resume with an official test first. I guess I want to know where I stand after all these years! Nonetheless, I understand that the profile will be looked at from different perspectives. Hoping for the best.

Hi Engineer1,

Regarding resources, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.
