I just went through certain articles wherein some people mentioned that GMAT online is slightly difficult and challenging than gmat incenter and they reported lower scores as compared to gmat in center. Is there any truth in this view. Is there any difference in the level of difficulty in terms of the questions asked?

At some point soon after the online GMAT was first released, there may have been for some reason a difference between the difficulty of the online GMAT and the in-person GMAT. I'm not saying there was, but it's possible that there was.
However, at this point, there is no difference between the difficulties of the two versions of the GMAT.
That there would be no difference makes sense because the makers of the test test every question before they use it. So, making the difficulties the same is straightforward. Also, GMAT pros who have taken both versions report that their difficulties are the same.
So, you can take either version of the GMAT and expect to see the same test.
