Hello everyone,
I've been preparing for GMAT for last 2-3 months, mainly through OG books, GMAT Ninja and other youtube channels (btw highly recommend Aditya Kumar for Quant). Apart from this, I keep practising questions everyday on GMAT club, and kept on giving Tests as much as possible. I've given approx all the tests available in Practice tests section and there I found that no matter how hard I try I kept getting mediocre scores (around 620-650) coz mainly I felt like after getting hard questions correct, next questions in GMAT Club's test kept getting extremely harder, ultimately breaking my spirit sometimes during exam (somewhat coz of my persistence to solve every question).
This 15th Aug as we got free tests for the day, I gave 3 tests and got he same around 650ish score every time no matter how hard I was trying, ultimately I was feeling down. And then on 16th I suddenly decided lets give one of free GMAC official practice test out of the 2 present which till now I was saving for later as I'm planning to GMAT within next 2 weeks, I started the test with DI (which I usually do) and trust me I felt I started worse than I usually do here but kept on going and even I felt Verbal was hard there coz it felt it was taking more time out of me. But I took the break before Quant and completed that too. To be honest considering all the tests I have given (which tbh I've given a lot, majority of those Free tests available across diff platforms), this felt like prolly one of my worst performances but still I was able to solve questions, it just took a lot more effort throughout. I was expecting something around 620ish, coz I have had much better exams at
GMAT Club tests but got max 655 only. But when result came I was shocked, I got 705- DI81 Q89 V85.
I've shocked as well as confused to what to expect from this, maybe this was a fluke but I didn't take any guess. I was not sure what to think of this result or get my hopes high, so I just slept. Next day, when I went through all those questions on GMAC, then I came to realise what actually caused this result- I realised one thing, although OG questions in this practice questions were tough but kept consistent at a hard level not going to a level that is super hard or a extreme time taking one (which usually happens in
GMAT Club test) causing in panic and subconscious low morale during test. Still I'm confused that whether this was a genuine result coz of this different style of adaptive test style or a fluke or just luck. If any of you have faced this or know about this, please let me know in comments.
Also, please note that through this I never meant to say that GMAT Club Practice Tests are not good, to be honest they have helped me a lot a lot in my prep and I still am going through them only and giving Adaptive quizzes daily. And ultimately I guess facing extremely hard questions actually helps somewhat coz they increase your level of thinking upto a point where OG questions feel a little easier to tackle.
