Hi everyone,
I recently gave the GMAT online in June 2021 and scored a 690 (Q46 and V39). My mock scores ranged from 660-700. This was my second attempt. I'd given the first one in November 2020 and scored a 630 (Q45 and V31). Even while prepping for the first exam, my verbal score always came between the range of V35-38 in official mocks. But I got nervous during D-day and my score plummeted. I took a break from November to March and started preparation again from March to June 2021. I am happy since I started from 450 in my first diagnostic mock (but a bit skeptical) with a 690 since it falls short of the 700 benchmark. I am not sure how big of a difference it will make for admission.

Since I've been preparing since July 2020, I am abit drained and I'm not sure about attempting it for the third time again. I understand I'll have to significantly improve my quant score. I started from a Q32 and I've always found quant more difficult than verbal. I am planning to apply for MBA/ Masters for the fall for 2022. I am mostly targeting grad schools in the UK, USA and maybe Europe. I haven't started researching about grad schools yet so I will start that as well now.

My profile - Nepalese nationality with a Bachelor of commerce (honours) graduate from a top tier college in India
Grade 10 - 87%
Grade 12 - 97%
Undergraduate - CGPA 8.55

Got recruited by a multinational firm from college and I currently have two years of work experience. Started from an analyst position and got promoted to a senior analyst now. During college, I was the head of PR for the marketing society. I took part in a college exchange program and went to Netherlands. I have completed 2 internships and taken part (won 2) competitions as well. I've been actively involved in community service since school.

Hello suvasini08,

How good your score is depends on the school you are targeting. If you are looking at top schools - 690 might not be competitive enough.
I am not sure of what kind of work experience you have in the last 2 years.

If other aspects of your application are stronger and you can weave a good story around it - 690 can be good enough depending on the school.

You can DM me if you would like to explore the options depending on the geography you are looking at.

rgds,
Shree

Hi suvasini08,

Have you started to think about your target school list? This will have a large impact on your decision of whether to retake the test or not. While your test score is just one part of the application and is not the be-all and end-all, it is still very important.

For US business schools, it is becoming less common to see students earn admission to the top 10-20 schools with a GMAT score below 700. That said, breaking 700 will certainly help maximize your candidacy if you are applying to some of these top programs.

As far as not wanting to take the test a third time, Personal MBA Coach's average candidate now sits for the exam 2 to 4 times (with some giving the test as many as 6 or 7 attempts).

Of course, there are other ways to enhance your candidacy, such as developing a compelling personal story and successfully articulating your MBA goals. These are both key components of our comprehensive services. Feel free to send a note to [email protected] to learn more about how we can help set you up for success!

Best,
Personal MBA Coach
