I think 3.5 is really good, and there's no immediate need to address it. The "class average" of Kellogg is 3.68, which can mean there are a bunch of 4.00's, some 3.3's, or maybe even some below 3's in the class. So don't overthink about it :) If your entire application is good enough, then 3.5 won't be a bottleneck for you.

Good Luck!

ychen135 - it wouldn't hurt to add a few lines on the optional essay.

You could address the main reason for the GPA (e.g. was it low during certain semesters, were you involved in ECAs etc.) and provide a more recent/ accurate representation of your quant and verbal abilities (e.g. work experiences, GMAT score, CFA, etc.). This should help offset any potential concerns there.

All the best!

Hi,

I plan to apply to Kellogg which has an average GPA at 3.68. I was an international student and has a undergrad GPA of 3.5/4.0. I have certifications like CFA and a GMAT score much higher than average to prove my academic readiness. Should I try to address this slightly lower GPA in my optional essay section?
