This might sound like a weird question but I am almost running out of cologne and I need to buy another one.

A typical bottle lasts me about 6 months, which means I will be carrying it to bschool.

As a top bschool student, which cologne is the best? It can't be overwhelming in scent since I will spray it to the interview and other social events....

now+6month is not B-school.

I know you're dreaming about b-school but it's still a long long ways away.

a few tips/thoughts...

on choosing a cologne:
- go to a sephora (yes, they have a men's section) or a nearby department store and get samplers of a few that smell good on paper (spray on the unprinted side of the spritz paper so you aren't smelling the ink).
- over the course of a few weeks try a different cologne on each day. remember that the scent will combine with your natural body oil to form an aroma that is NOT what you smelled on paper. an example is i bought some lacoste a while ago cause it smelled SO good in the store, but after i bought a bottle and wore it for a few days i realized it literally smelled like URINE on me. i learned that lesson the hard way (thankfully they took the bottle back).
- simply tell the cologne specialist that you want a crisp, clean scent and he/she should be able to help you find something. since we are coming up on springtime there should be plenty of good options available to you. also you may want to consider getting something a little heavier for the cold months, evenings out, and/or romantic occasions ;)

on wearing cologne:
- do NOT spray it on your clothing. i would recommend one spray on the chest before you put your shirt on, and one OPTIONAL spray on the wrists and lightly dab them together (rubbing will actually crush the layered scent). do NOT exceed two sprays and do NOT apply cologne above your neck. the litmus test for wearing cologne is someone should smell you after you walk past them, not before they reach you.

above all else, know that cologne smells different on everyone so recommendations should only be taken with a grain of salt. you are going to have to go through trial & error to really find one that wears well on you. that being said, i like issey miyake and d&g light blue for the light scents. for something with a fruitier undertone i really like cartier. i would only strongly discourage acqua d'gio just cause it is so played out and everyone wears that.

anyway finding a cologne should be a fun experience (plus a great way to meet girls and ask their preference for your 'new' cologne, if you are so bold :P)

If you're serious about this, a good place to research is basenotes.net

They have a subforum for male fragrances: https://community.basenotes.net/forumdisplay.php?f=17 which talks about which scents get the most compliments, which ones make you feel "intelligent", etc

They have a separate section for people just starting out also: https://community.basenotes.net/forumdisplay.php?f=24

But to quickly rattle off a few brands if you want to smell expensive:

Creed
Bond No. 9 (they have a scent called Wall St which I'm a big fan of)
Tom Ford's private blend collection (Tuscan Leather allegedly smells like cocaine, but I've smelled most of them, and they're all top notch)

There's a general agreement that perfumes from niche houses > designer fragrances > celebrity fragrances, but of course there are exceptions to the rule.

I have a gigantic fragrance listing containing reviews if anyone wants to know which ones got a 5-star rating. Just post here with what you're looking for (aquatic, citrus, orientals, incense, leather, tobacco, gourmand, etc)

Oh and on the sex panther note, Burger King has a body spray that smells like whopper.... www.firemeetsdesire.com
