Renting Textbooks?

So, I have lots of time to catch up on my readings while i am on my vacation and I came up across this NYT article from few weeks ago.

We Rent Movies, So Why Not Textbooks?

Apparently, there's a site that rents you textbooks. After browsing through, I cam eup with conclusion that the fee for renting each textbook for the semester equals to (give or take):

Net of { USED Textbook Purchase Price - Resell/Salvage Value }

So, anyone else think this is a good idea in bschool to rent textbooks rather than buying them?

I've been choosing just not to buy them in the first place

I've found that professor's in class notes and course packs have been much much more helpful than any textbook. After my first quarter accounting class where I read one chapter in the book and never used it again, I've basically ditched textbooks.

Hmmm... the last time I took a book out of the library, they didn't charge me 80% of the books value. :wink:

I did this during my undergrad. Unless we were working on problems out of the textbook or the book would serve as a good reference in the future, I never bought them.

I never bought the text book until it became very apparent I could complete the course without it.
