Need help . .Already an MBA Planning for another MBA from US

Question

Hi,
I have done my MMS(MBA)Marketing from mumbai university and i Plan to do another MBA in Brand Mgmt from US.
Today i visited a very renowned consultant from mumbai. She totally demotivated me, telling that

- My previous MBA is hindrance as Bschools in US dont prefer students who have already done MBA
- also said my % i.e. 65-70% throughout my College & masters is not good
- and she said in US Marketing jobs are for White Skinned not Brown and suggested me to do MBA in finance else i will have to come back to India.

while told my friend, who has done engineering and had got less marks than me on gmat as well as in college, has less job experience, and wants to specialise in marketing, that he will get handsome package.

Kindly throw some light on the above mentioned points. i am confused & really worried

I appreciate your decision to apply for US b-schools, there is no rule that US b-schools don't encourage second MBA. You can plan to apply for top b-schools in marketing like Kellogg, Kelley, Duke, Emory, Ross, McDonough, Haas. Please share more details about your profile so that I can evaluate in better way. Is it true that Asians dont get job in Marketing in US?
Also if someone can Guide me Regarding scholarships and general idea regarding what is the criteria regarding Scholarships and min score reuired to receive scholarship.

Good news is that Asians do get the jobs in marketing, in fact, they are doing very well. Bad news is most of them are East Asians (Korean, Japanese and Chinese). The companies in the industry know how big buyer East Asians nowaday are for their products, especially luxury goods, so they actively hire people with East Asian background.

I've been working for two retail businesses past seven years, one of them being the #1 in the industry, and there have been a significant number of associates, even upper management, in marketing department who are East Asian. But I must admit that Indian is very rare, and to be honest, I haven't met many so far. Probably under five. So, it is a difficult field for Indian to be in I'd guess. But on the other hand, if you do really well, you may be able to benefit from the lack of competition.

Without disparaging the consultant (although I am strongly tempted to do so), I would recommend you ignoring her advice.

U.S. MBA schools want to see a reason for your wishing to pursue an MBA, but do not view it as a hindrance per say. In fact, I have had many successful Indian clients who had applied with a second MBA.

The 65%-70% is not considered in a vacuum, as a high GMAT and having attended a strong undergraduate institution (e.g. IIT) will mitigate this. Also, was your 65%-70% a First Class (as opposed to a Second Class) which will help?

Finally, many Indians (and other races) obtain jobs in all sorts of sectors. Indians have greater difficulty in the admissions process not because of racism, but rather pure numbers (more apply). So, there is no racism that extends to the recruiting process (although I am sure instances exist, but these are sad exceptions and not the rule).
