Hi Linda.
I recently took the GMAT and scored just below the average of most of the top 10 schools. My GMAT score was 20-30 points lower than I was consistently scoring in practice tests.
To supplement the score, I have an above average grade point from a good school and three years of valuation consulting.
I am hoping to go to Wharton, Stanford, Chicago, or Northwestern.
I am struggling with the decision of whether to retake the test or just concentrate on the other parts of my application. Can you please offer me any advice?
Thank you very much for your time.
Given your high quant score, the fact that 680 is close to the GMAT average for Wharton, Chicago, and Kellogg, your strong undergrad business performance, and your work experience, I would
not retake the GMAT unless you feel strongly that you can improve it -- for example, you had a temperature at the time you took the test and had been scoring 750 consistently on practice tests. In that case, retake it. Without that kind of confidence, focus on school research, the essays, and other aspects of the application.
Good luck!
