Hello Friends,
I am aiming for the batch: 2016 fall. I am seriously preparing for GMAT now, I will be taking the test in Feb/March[2015].
My profile is :
Age: 24; Gender: Male; Location: India.
Under graduation: Bachelor’s in Engineering [B.E]: Electronics and Telecommunication, University of Mumbai, graduated with 1st class honors[i.e 60% +]
Post-Graduation: Masters of Science [MSc.]: Wireless Communication systems, Brunel University, London, Graduated with Distinction [i.e 75% +, including Dissertation topic]
Work Experience: ABB India Limited [ Forbes: #169], May 17th,2013-, so I will have 3 years,2-3 months of experience in the year 2016. During this period I have worked in two Departments: Manufacturing initially, and then Design & Engineering. I have relevant work experience as my profile is into Fiber optics and Wireless, which was my Post-Graduation topic.
My Extra-curricular activities:
• Event Head, “Autonomous Robotics”, University of Mumbai
• Student Representative, Wireless Communication Systems, Brunel University, London
• Taekwondo Black Belt, during my school days
• Completed Half Marathon in Jun14, Will complete the full marathon in Jan 15
• District Chess player[in my school & college days]
Okay, I certainly don’t have enough flavor in my profile.
I am interested in doing MBA: Finance or Technology management from any of the Top 25 Universities in the US, I would like to apply for scholarships too.
The reason Technology management because I would like to move into managerial positions in areas concerning technology.
Finance is my 2nd option because that’s something I haven’t been exposed to at all and the fact that it plays a crucial role in our day to day lives[wealth management, assets management etc.] will be an added advantage. I am good in math’s,abstract concepts and I feel weirdly confident that I will do well in finance [I mean you can ask why not marketing?! I might counter with why marketing?! Its just a good feeling and an hunch!].
I would like to know what areas I need to improve and what additional skills I need to gain so that I have a decent shout in getting into one of the top Universities.
I have made a draft list of universities that interest me. [Do I have a chance in these universities

? Are they too ambitious? Etc. , I haven’t added Harvard, Stanford and other top universities because I really have no idea whether my profile is remotely good enough for those universities]
Berkeley-Haas Cornell-Samuel Curtis Johnson
Michigan-Stephen M. Ross
Texas Austin- Mccombs
Washington-Foster School of business
Indiana-Kelly
Kellogg school of management
North Carolina-Kenan-Flagler Business school
The reason I want to do an MBA? There are two reasons for that:
1. My initial love for science and technology was the reason I wanted to do Engineering, and the reason why I completed my masters. However, having tasted the waters, I have realized that to be somebody who matters, a person of change or responsibility, you need to be a generalist and not a specialist. My current field is a highly focused and specialized field, and the opportunity to develop leadership skills, to be involved in strategic decision making are bleak. An MBA degree will help me develop crucial skills to become a generalist.
2. The second reason is purely based on career enhancement! [ Yes I am dreaming big!, I want to be a CEO after 10 years!

]. Being in a specialized field means the number opportunities available outside are limited. Resulting in fierce competition. Also, in my organization, people who have grown up the organizational ladder haven eventually made the switch to Marketing[which is a generalist function], however this transition from an engineer to a Marketing person will happen after you have put in 8-10 years of experience, and even after that you need to pick up those skills fast!. So I basically realized that the goal ahead for me is clear.
The option I can take is up to me! i.e. either work for 10-12 years or do an MBA to change the field immediately and thereby giving me 5-7 years head start!
However, i dont want to do an MBA just for the heck of it. I realize that unless you do an MBA from a good university, it doesnt make sense. And of course, you have to factor in the ROI and the growth prospects that one usually associates with an MBA.
Awaiting your Suggestions
Best Regards
