Hi,
I know applicants are in the midst of their HBS, Stanford, Wharton, and other interviews. I wish all of you a successful interview and admissions results!
As a former admissions board member at HBS and former director of admissions at Carnegie Mellon University Public Policy and Management Programs I have interviewed hundreds of students and seen the many pitfalls applicants unwittingly fall into.
Starting with the HBS interview, you need to understand that at the heart of the interview is a focus on understanding you, your unique story. And this is based on what you have shared in your application. So yes, you have to know your application inside out. But it is more than that. You need to anticipate the natural questions that emerge from reading your application.
Expect the usual questions--why MBA, career goals, challenges, achievements, etc. But be prepared to dig a bit deeper and ready to answer questions that aim at understanding your motivations. Why did you choose this particular group as opposed to that other one. So when you wrote about the challenge your team faced, how exactly did you contribute to.....You love to travel and learn about new cultures? So tell me what observations you made on your most recent trip to X that surprised you....
The point is that there isn't a formula to an HBS interview. They simply want to know that you are AUTHENTIC. That what you say/how you have represented your brand is indeed the real deal. And of course they want to know that they LIKE/APPROVE of that brand, hence the further probing that goes into their interviews.

Other videos on handling behavioral interviews (which you will encounter a lot of with schools like Stanford, MIT, etc., can be found on our YouTube Channel as well).
To your success!!
