I made the decision that I wanted to get my Full-Time MBA back in mid-January of this year, and started studying for the GMAT at that point. I'm scheduled to take the test at the end of this month and have been consistently scoring around 700-740 on practice tests. I attended a US state school for undergrad with a 3.8 GPA in a liberal arts double major (English & History) and currently work in corporate merchandising at a Fortune 20 company.

However, I'm extremely concerned about the realities of the timelines and specifically my age. I assume once I take the GMAT I will need a few months to prepare my applications, but that means even if I apply early/round 1 for schools I wouldn't matriculate until Fall of 2016. I'm currently 27, and my birthday is in July, so I would be 28 by application time and 29 by the time I started school. I've looked around and there seem to be a few alternative programs to start earlier / finish more quickly (Columbia January start/Kellogg 1 year), but I think the loss of the internship would be an issue.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Dude,
29 is totally fine! Even not a standard deviation away!

Hi there,

It’s always exciting to see the prep for the GMAT go well for applicants. Best of luck on test day! Simply put, you shouldn't be concerned about your age/timeline. The average age at the top schools hovers between 27-29 – HBS and Stanford are known to have a slightly younger class but they diversify across the board. At this stage, you’re in a great position with your practice test scores so focus on the test, dominate the GMAT, and then regroup to develop your application strategy.

Best,

Bhavik

Hi Setreal,

I totally agree with above comments here, applying at 28 and attending at 29 is totally fine. Don't worry about the age factor. Since you are working and have corporate experience, your application would be stronger than the candidates applying at 25 age. The mock test scores which you mentioned seems good so as of now concentrate on your GMAT.

Wish you all the best for your GMAT. You may also gauge your chances of getting admission to top business school by trying this amazing tool https://bit.ly/1C9o2Md

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
