Undergrad: BS Mechanical Engineering (Top 50 state school)
GPA: 3.7
GMAT: 710- 49Q 38V 8IR 6AWA
Work Experience: Currently finishing 2 year Rotational Leadership Development program (held positions as Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Inside Sales Rep) at a Fortune 250 Equipment Design and Manufacturing company. My position out of the program will be in Technical Proposals, dealing directly with large international energy companies. I plan on matriculating with either 3.5 or 4.5 years of work experience.
Volunteer: Established a relationship between a local charity and my company. I organized a suit drive at 5 company locations around my city for the charity and got the company to match donations. I also volunteer at the charity on some weekends as a career counselor for disadvantaged and impoverished men looking to enter the workforce.
Goal Schools: Sloan, Haas, Duke, HBS (extreme reach), Columbia, Kellogg
How attainable are my goals with my profile? My future goal is to get into Venture Capital, but I know that is a very difficult industry to enter. If I cannot enter Venture Capital straight out of school, I would like to stay in the corporate setting moving up the corporate ladder, probably through the sales/marketing side. Overall, I am interested in leveraging my technical background in the future, but I am more interested in the business side- sales, marketing, process improvement, management, etc. I feel a top tier MBA can really set me on a path for corporate success, since lower MBAs are becoming so much more common.
What is your opinion on the duration of my work experience- should I do 3.5 or 4.5 years? It is not easy to get promotions in engineering, so career progression can be tricky to track.
Do I need to retake the GMAT and hit 740+ to get into my goal schools? I was getting 730 on practice tests, but I guess test day I scored a little lower.
I would really appreciate all feedback on my profile!
