Not too bad a passage 600-700 level IMO, 3 mins all correct, although this was right up my alley as I have a background in biology. Happy to help folks if needed!

Hi Pranjal3107

Quote:
(D) They occur due to a repeated folding and unfolding of prions that eventually damages these proteins.

What's mentioned in the passage is: "Prions are created as a result of a mutation in the PRNP gene, which in normal form produces the prion protein PrPC. The mutation causes the gene to produce a misfolded form of the protein, often called PrPSc."

Implication: The mutation results in a misfolded form of protein, that does not imply that folding and unfolding of prions damages the proteins. It's the mutation that causes the damaged protein.

Hope This Helps.
Thanks.

The option says "a symptom of damage to the thalamus" and the passage says the following in the last paragraph.

"The thalamus is the part of the brain responsible for controlling sleep and wakefulness, and, as the name of the disorder implies, those suffering from fatal insomnia reach a point where they can no longer sleep due to thalamic damage.

So any symptoms of a disease that is caused due to damage to the thalamus will make the practitioner test for TSE insomnia as it is also primarily caused due to damage to the thalamus.

Hope it helps.
