"in that" is preferred over "because" in GMAT , options (A) , (B) & (C) can hence be rejected !!
Between (D) & (E), correct answer must be (E) for the correct use of their Vs they.
Hence, correct answer must be (E)

The usage of 'additionally' and 'also' after 'and' in a list of items is redundant and hence incorrect- eliminates A,B &C.
Out of D & E, E is far more concise than D.
