OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

The Yazidi religion, containing elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, is rooted predominant in Kurdish culture, its largest community of followers sporadically occupying northern Iraq.

A. The Yazidi religion, containing elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, is rooted predominant in Kurdish culture, its largest community of followers sporadically occupying northern Iraq

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. An adjective (predominant) cannot describe a verb (rooted). Adjectives can only describe nouns.

An adverb should be used to describe a verb.

B. The Yazidi religion, containing elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, is rooted predominantly in Kurdish culture, and its largest community of followers sporadically occupies northern Iraq

This answer choice corrects the original Parts of Speech error by using an adverb (predominantly) to describe a verb (rooted).

C. Containing elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the Yazidi religion is rooted predominantly in Kurdish cultural, its largest community of followers sporadically occupying northern Iraq

Although this answer choice corrects the original Parts of Speech error by using an adverb to describe a verb, it creates another similar error by using two adjectives (Kurdish cultural) without having a noun for them to describe.

D. The Yazidi religion, its largest community of followers sporadically occupying northern Iraq, contains elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity as well as Islam, and is rooted predominantly in Kurdish culture

Although this answer choice corrects the original Parts of Speech error by using an adverb to describe a verb, it creates Redundancy with the phrase as well as. Although as well as is a stylistic flaw, it is one of the specific Redundancies that should always be corrected.

Using as well as instead of and is redundant.

What helps us identify this Redundancy error is the following Stop Sign: as well as

E. Containing elements of Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the Yazidi religion is rooted predominantly in Kurdish culture, its largest community of followers sporadic occupying northern Iraq

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect and repeats the original Parts of Speech error. An adjective (sporadic) cannot describe a verb (occupying). Adjectives can only describe nouns.

An adverb should be used to describe a verb.
