Behavioral studies comparing young chimpanzees to young humans reveal few difference between their psychological capacities. The most reasonable explanation for these results is the inadequacy of the studies.
THIS IS A ASSUMPTION QUESTION.....

since it is stated that the explanation for few differences between psychological capacities is inadequacy of studies....it means that there are significant differences in the two.....however studies being inadequate the same are not evident.........

If studies being inadequate explains for few differences, can we say anything conclusively about this difference unless the study is adequate??

you would be right logically..you may presume that may be after detailed and adequate study also, it appears that there is little difference.......... however, here the author clearly disagrees with the study reports , meaning that there are significant differences and ,therefore, casts a doubt on their adequacy.

This is how i went about with the question. So the argument says that the reason for the differences in the psychological capacities is the inadequacy of the study results. So the assumption must be the statement which says that there is o other reason for such a difference to occur. But if you consider option D which states that - The psychological capacities of young humans and young chimps differ significantly, It is directly strengthening the conclusion and hence can be the correct assumption. Is my reasoning correct??

Behavioral studies comparing young chimpanzees to young humans reveal few difference between their psychological capacities. The most reasonable explanation for these results is the inadequacy of the studies.

An unstated premise of the above argument is that:

A) Psychological capacities cannot be assessed objectively. -This weakens the argument. If the capacities can't be assessed then there is no use in conducting such studies.

B) Biased researchers frequently misinterpret the results of their studies. -Had the results been misinterpreted the outcome would have been wrong. But as per the argument, the studies were inadequate, so we can't say whether the studies were inadequate based on the misinterpretation of the results.

C) Young humans and chimps have underdeveloped psychological capacities. -Okay, but it doesn't concern us with the inadequacy of the studies

D) The psychological capacities of young humans and young chimps differ significantly. -Correct. If it is a known fact that the humans differ COMPLETELY from the chimps then we can definitely conclude, as done in the passage, that the studies weren't conducted adequately.

E) young chimpanzees can speak as well as young humans. -out of scope
