nightblade354 The argument says “history of drinking” and option D presents someone who DRINKS excessively. So it’s not a one time thing it seems.

Doer01, I have amended my comment to state that the top position vs. any position, as you pointed out, is another reason to eliminate (D). There are also sufficient vs. necessary conditions being broken by (D), but this goes well beyond the GMAT and probably wouldn't help with the confusion you have expressed

it;s been a long time since avoiding all the trap answers , as i was falling into the trap answers repeatedly , now for the queestoin at matter it portarys about a person whose irreseponsible behaviour excessive drinking because of which he isn't able to hold any important positions in the military , D looks like the best best but the best option is not always the right option .....manhattan prop material i think that's where i picked it or is it priceton i don't clearly recollect only option that i had to re read twice was A which ultimately turned out to the bad guy .....

Only A and E make them count here. D is out for straight forward reason and reason that nightblade has given.
E falls apart for wrongly interpreting the reasoning presented in the argument.

Wondering that you were not drunk while typing the post. ;)

It's an easy A. Guys remember that when you are answering a principle-based question, you can't expect to have an exact word to word-based option straight from the argument.

A principle will always be "general" by definition as it covers a broader aspect than what is just given in the argument. :)

(A) No one who would be barred from important jobs in an organization should lead that organization Correct. As the tasks listed in the statement - "commanding a missile, bomber squadron or contingent of fighter jets," are not simple/minimal tasks, these hold some esteem, hence this is the correct statement. The statement does not highlight entry level to executive level jobs but simply focuses on the important ones.
(B) Whoever leads an organization must have served at every level in the organization Incorrect. The examples given in the statement - commanding a missile, bomber squadron or contingent of fighter jets, these are not entry level jobs/tasks in the military. Hence, rejected.
(C) Whoever leads an organization must be qualified to hold each important job in the organization. Incorrect. Being barred from holding a position is not the same as being qualified to hold it. For example, a doctor who cannot perform surgery because their medical license has been revoked, although they have the qualification to perform the task they are banned from it.
(D) No one who drinks excessively should hold a leadership position any where along the military’s chain of command. Incorrect, while this is highlighted in first part of the statement, it has missed on the latter part.
(E) No one who cannot command a missile wing should be at the top of the military’s chain of command Incorrect, while this directly references the statement it focuses only on one aspect and misses the broader point.
