Premise:

Most criticism is about works that fail to satisfy the critic.

Conclusion:

Therefore, most criticism is about works other than the greatest works of art.

The logical gap

To move from:

“critics mostly write about works they don’t like”

to:

“therefore they are not writing about the greatest works”

we must assume:

👉 Great works are NOT among the works critics dislike

In other words:

Great works must satisfy critics

Check answer choices

(E) The greatest works of art are works that inevitably satisfy all critics

✔ This directly bridges the gap:

If great works satisfy critics → they are NOT in the “fail to satisfy” group

Since most criticism is about the “fail to satisfy” group → it excludes great works

✅ This makes the conclusion logically valid.

Why others fail

A: About critics enjoying writing — irrelevant

B: About difficulty finding good art — not needed

C: About publicity — irrelevant

D: About recognition timing — irrelevant
