Professor: Poetry, unlike pros, is always open to interpretation. While pros is a direct explicit flow of thought, poetry is more of an expression of experience. The reader of the pros always knows what the author intended to write, but the reader of poetry cannot always be so sure. It is thus important that the students attending my seminar on the poetry of Maya Angelou, the famous American poet, read at least a few different interpretations of her poems in order to widen their understanding of the poet's thoughts rather than rely on the interpretations provided by me.

Which of the following can be inferred from the argument above?

A) The professor's interpretation of Maya Angelou's poetry is different from that provided by any other author.
B) The professor's interpretation of Maya Angelou's poetry is not going to widen students' understanding of the poetry.
C) Understanding Maya Angelou's poetry solely on the interpretation of other scholars is acceptable to the professor.
D) Other scholars' interpretations of Maya Angelou's poetry are likely to be different from the interpretation provided by the professor.
E) If a student claims a deep understanding of Maya Angelou's poetry, he has gone through the professor's interpretations.

Hi,
Can someone please explain the argument given in the question? I didn't understand the argument

Hey, Ill take a stab at it since I just solved it.
Argument draws a comparison b/w Poem and Prose

Poem || Prose
open to I || NOT open
Express || Direct
Diff interpret || Full undrstanding of author's intentions

CONCLUSION - students should read other interpretations of the poetry of Maya Angelou to widen their understanding of the poet's thoughts rather than rely on the interpretations provided by me.

A) The professor's interpretation of Maya Angelou's poetry is different from that provided by any other author. - CAN BE SAME
B) The professor's interpretation of Maya Angelou's poetry is not going to widen students' understanding of the poetry - NOT STATED IN ARG OR CANT INFER(A---> B GIVEN THEN YOU CANT INFER OPPOSITE RELATIONS)
C) Understanding Maya Angelou's poetry solely on the interpretation of other scholars is acceptable to the professor. - "SOLELY"? CANT SAY
D) Other scholars' interpretations of Maya Angelou's poetry are likely to be different from the interpretation provided by the professor. - YES THIS HAS TO BE TRUE
E) If a student claims a deep understanding of Maya Angelou's poetry, he has gone through the professor's interpretations. - PROFESSOR DSNT SAY THAT I WILL PROVIDE DEEP UNDERSTANDING
