To determine which statement is most strongly supported by the information provided, let's break down the facts:
  1. Many yachts in Miami have a hot tub on the top deck.
  2. 80% of the yachts sold in the past 15 years in Miami are older models that originally did not have built-in hot tubs.

Now, let's analyze each option to see how it aligns with these facts:

(A) People shopping for yachts will likely choose an older-model with a hot tub than an older-model without a hot tub.

  • This is a possible inference based on the popularity of hot tubs on yachts, but it's not directly supported by the provided information. It assumes that older models now have hot tubs, which isn't explicitly stated.

(B) Only new yacht models come with hot tubs.

  • This option incorrectly concludes exclusivity, which is not supported. The information only mentions that older models didn't originally have hot tubs; it doesn't specify that new models do, nor that modifications aren't made to older models.

(C) Some newer yacht models were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami.

  • Since 80% of the yachts sold in the last 15 years were older models, this implies that the remaining 20% of the yachts sold must be newer models. This is the only conclusion directly supported by the given percentages.

(D) All yachts in Miami without hot tubs were sold in the past fifteen years.

  • This is an overgeneralization and not supported. The statement doesn't provide information about the sale or features of all yachts in Miami, just a specific observation about the age and features of a portion of those sold in the last 15 years.

(E) None of the newer yacht models with hot tubs will be sold in the next fifteen years.

  • This prediction is entirely unsupported by the provided information. There's no basis for claims about future sales from the data given.
Conclusion: Option (C) Some newer yacht models were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami is the best choice as it is directly supported by the logical deduction from the provided data: if 80% of yachts sold were older models, the remaining 20% must be newer models. This is the only conclusion that can be drawn without making additional assumptions beyond the information given.

Many of the yachts anchored in Miami boast a luxurious hot tub on the top deck. Almost 80% of the yachts that were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami are older models, and none of them had built-in hot tubs.

The information above most strongly supports which of the following?

A. People shopping for yachts will likely choose an older-model with a hot tub than an older-model without a hot tub.

B. Only new yacht models come with hot tubs.

C. Some newer yacht models were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami.

D. All yachts in Miami without hot tubs were sold in the past fifteen years.

E. None of the newer yacht models with hot tubs will be sold in the next fifteen years.

First, Lets look at the stimuli.

Statement 1 (S1): Many of the yachts anchored in Miami boast a luxurious hot tub on the top deck.

Statement 2 (S2): Almost 80% of the yachts that were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami are older models, and none of them had built-in hot tubs.

The question is: The information above most strongly supports which of the following? - note that it can support another of the answer choices, but it has to be with less strength, the key here is to analyse the strength of the statement in relation to the information provided in the stimuli.

A. People shopping for yachts will likely choose an older-model with a hot tub than an older-model without a hot tub.

We should rule out this option as a trap. While the statement makes logical sense (who wouldn't want a hot tub in their yacht) it is not supported by the information in the stimuli. "Many of the yachts anchored in Miami boast a luxurious hot tub on the top deck" from this statement we can tell that people clearly desire hot tubs on their yacht. However the stimulus partially contradicts this statement. It goes on to state: "Almost 80% of the yachts that were sold in the past 15 years in Miami are older models, and none of them had built in hot tubs." - From S2 we can gather that the majority of people in Miami at least have selected an older model without a hot tub. Notice that the statement also mentions 'people' without reference to the people of Miami. Discard

B. Only new yacht models come with hot tubs.

We should also rule out this option. If we take a look at S1 it doesn't tell give us any information as to whether this statement is true or not. If we go on to S2 - it also has no relevant information on whether new yacht models have a hot tub. It only speaks to old models. Discard

C. Some newer yacht models were sold in the past fifteen years in Miami.

If we look at this option, it is clearly supported by the simtuli. The strength of that support is debatable. S1 and S2 establish that in Miami, there are many yachts with hot tubs. S2 specifies that while 80% of the yachts sold in Miami are older boats - it specifies that none of them have hot tubs. In order for yachts with Hot tubs to be anchored in Miami in the last 15 years. Keep

D. All Yachts in Miami without hot tubs were sold in the past 15 years

While the stimuli specifies in S2 that all of the older models sold in the last 15 years lacked a hot tub, it does not tell us whether all of the yachts without a hot tub were sold in the last 15 years. It is very possible that a yacht without a hot tub in use now was sold 16 years ago. Discard

E. None of the newer yacht models with hot tubs will be sold in the next fifteen years.

Neither S1 or S2 speaks to this information. There is no mention of future yachts or their potential sales. Discard
