indigenous tribes were introduced to horses through europeans.
use of horses revolutionized hunting and transportation capabilities of these tribes.
however as soon as tribes started using horses, they began to suffer from outbreaks of diseases such as salmonellosis. this disease can be transmitted from horse to human.
but europeans who used extensively were rare among the europeans.

A so now if they have stronger immune system due to generational exposure then it make sense why europeans are not susceptible to the disease. their body just know how to fight the disease whereas the tribes are still new with this so their body havent developed the fighting mechanism yet. keep.
B not concerned about where horses were raised and which place has more chances of getting the disease in horses. reject.
C good for western people. they will have some status now but this has zero impact on our problem. reject.
D but it doesnt tell us why europeans didnt get the disease. out.
E not concerned with how these disease were attributed earlier. reject.

The indigenous tribes of the Western Hemisphere were first introduced to horses through the Europeans. The use of horses revolutionized the hunting and transportation capabilities of these tribes. However, tribes that started using horses soon began to suffer from outbreaks of diseases such as salmonellosis, which can be transmitted from horses to humans. Yet, such outbreaks were rare among the Europeans, although they used horses more extensively.

If true, which of the statements below best explains the discrepancy in the outbreak of diseases such as salmonellosis?

A. Generational exposure to domesticated horses allowed the Europeans to develop stronger immune responses to horse borne diseases.
B. Horses raised in Europe were more susceptible to disease than those raised in the Western Hemisphere were.
C. After their introduction into the Western Hemisphere, horses became status symbols among the indigenous tribes, due to the horses’ exotic nature and impressive size.
D. Many Europeans who worked with horses were also exposed to horse borne diseases other than salmonellosis.
E. Before the discovery that horses transmit diseases such as salmonellosis, such conditions were attributed to an imbalance of fluids within the body.

A. Generational exposure to domesticated horses allowed the Europeans to develop stronger immune responses to horse-borne diseases.
Europeans had long-term exposure, so their bodies likely adapted. Indigenous tribes were newly exposed, so they were more vulnerable.
Directly explains the discrepancy

B. Horses raised in Europe were more susceptible to disease than those raised in the Western Hemisphere were.
If European horses were more disease-prone, Europeans should have more outbreaks, not fewer.

C. After their introduction into the Western Hemisphere, horses became status symbols among the indigenous tribes.
Cultural importance doesn’t explain disease differences.

D. Many Europeans who worked with horses were also exposed to other horse-borne diseases.
This doesn’t explain why salmonellosis outbreaks were rare.

E. Before the discovery that horses transmit diseases, such conditions were attributed to an imbalance of fluids.
This is about old medical beliefs, not actual infection rates.

Ans (A)

Option A clearly explains the discrepancy involved here.
