(Cost Tea A) + (Cost Tea B) = (Cost New Tea)

25*x + 30*30 = 30/1.1 (x+30) = > x = 36

If cost of new tea is 30/1.1, then we can sell it at 30 for a 10% gain

Please I need to Know what went wrong in my solution

Price-Cost/Price=Profit Margin.

Hence, (900+30X)-(25x+900)/(900+30X)=10/100
so x = 45

Try backsolving - it is a good skill to practice and I think makes solving this question a lot easier

Our goal is to get to $27 per kg (approx) or 30/11 (This is the hardest part to figure out)
36kg*$25 + 30kg*$30 = $1800
$1800/66kg = 300/11

Hi,

You have gone wrong in your denominator..
Profit is always on COST, so profit = ( selling price -cost price)/ cost price..
(900+30x)-(25x+900)/(25x+900)= 10/100..
5x/25x+900 =1/10....50x=25x+900....25x=900....x=36...

HOW MANY KGS OF TEA WORTH RS.25/KG MUST BE BLENDED WITH 30 KGS OF TEA WORTH RS.30/KG SO THAT BY SELLING THE BLENDED VARIETY AT RS.30/KG THERE SHOULD BE A GAIN OF 10%

A) 36
B) 40
C) 32
D) 42
E) 45

Just figure out the last part and consider the question done.

So the last part says " BY SELLING THE BLENDED VARIETY AT RS.30/KG THERE SHOULD BE A GAIN OF 10% "
=> \(30 = 1.1x => x = 300/11\) where x is cost price of blended tea

Using weighted avgs : \(25-------------------300/11-------------------30\)
Ratio of TEA WORTH RS.25/KG to TEA WORTH RS.30/KG = \((30 - 300/11) / (300/11 - 25) = 6/5\)
So KGS OF TEA WORTH RS.25/KG = \(30 * 6/5 =36\)

Answer : A

A) 36
B) 40
C) 32
D) 42
E) 45

the wording is very confusing, what is RS???

my approach...
suppose we have 40 kgs of tea which costs 0.25$/kg
total revenue - 10$
we have 30kgs of tea which costs 0.3$/kg
total revenue - 9$
total - 19$
19 = 100%
1.9 = 10%
total new revenue = 20.9 must be.
40+30 = 70. 70*0.3 = 21 - too big. need a smaller number - B, D, and E are out.
since the difference is not that big (0.1$ only), we should look for a number that is slightly less than 40.

we are left with A and C...one more testing to do...
let's take A
36*0.25 = 9$
30*0.3 = 9$
total = 18$
+10% = 19.8$

now..36+30 = 66.
66*0.3 = 19.8$ - we have a match...
A must be the answer.

Profit % = (Profit/CP) x 100

Profit = S.P-C.P = 30 ( x + 30 ) - (25x + 900) assuming x to be quantity to find out

so final equation becomes

10 = {30 ( x + 30 ) - (25x + 900)/(25x + 900)} x 100

solving above equation, we will get x=36
