Because this problem includes two mutually-exclusive categories (Tried and Did Not Try, and Women and Men) it's a great candidate for a Matrix Box setup. Applying the given information, you have:

Then summing the rows and columns, you can fill in the rest:

Since the problem asks for the number of men who tried the appetizer, the correct answer is 70.

Total people at party=150
Women=70
so Men 150-70=80
No. of pple who tried appetizer=150-50 (given info)=100
No of women who tried appetizer=30
So Remaining ppl(men) who tried the appetizer =100-30=70

SOLUTION:

Number of Men are = 150-70=80 men

Number of women who did NOT try the appetizer = 70-30 = 40 women out of 50 people who did NOT try the appetizer.

Hence number of men who did NOT try the appetizer = 50-40=10 out of 80 men

=>Number of men who tried the appetizer = 80-10=70 men (OPTION D)
