In a group of 40 people, 15 have visited Iceland and 23 have visited Norway. If 11 people have visited both Iceland and Norway, how many people have visited neither country?

A. 10
B. 11
C. 12
D. 13
E. 14

Kudos for a correct solution.

D is the answer:

n(IuN) = n(I) + n(N) - n(InN) + none
40 = 15 + 23 - 11 + none
none = 13

so D

When having 2 intersecting groups the following formula should be followed:

Total = in Group 1 + in Group 2 - In both Groups + in neither group

In this particular case:

44 = 15 + 23 -11 + Neither

Neither = 13

Kudos for a correct solution.
\(n(A U B) =n (A) + n (B) - n (A ∩ B)\)

\(n(A U B) =15 + 23 - 11\)

\(n(A U B) = 27\)

\(n(A U B)' = 40 - 27 = 13\), Answer must be (D)
