Car runs 32 miles in 1gallon

Gas costs $4 for 1 gallon

Basically car can be driven 32 miles with $4 worth of gas

now if we have $50 worth of gas we can go --> (50 *32) / 4 = 50 * 8 = 400 miles

answer = C

I believe the answer is C. Please see below for explanation.

Dan’s car gets 32 miles per gallon. If gas costs $4/gallon, then how many miles can Dan’s car go on $50 of gas?

0) we are told that Dan 's car gets 32 m/g

m = 32 * g

we are also told that gas costs 4d/g

d = 4 * g

How many miles will Dan's car go on 50 dollars of gas?

combining both equations
m/32=d/4 then cross multiply and replace 50 for d
4m=32*50
m=1600/4 = 400

$4 * 12 = $48
So for $48 we will get 32 * 12 miles = 384 miles
remaining $2 will give us 32/2 = 16 miles
Total miles = 384 +16 = 400

Answer is 400.

$50 will get 50/4 gallons. 1 gallon gives 32 miles so 50/4 will give 400 miles.

Dan’s car gets 32 miles per gallon. If gas costs $4/gallon, then how many miles can Dan’s car go on $50 of gas?

(A) 61.25 miles
(B) 256 miles
(C) 400 miles
(D) 1600 miles
(E) 6400 miles

Kudos for a correct solution.

$4 can buy 1 gallon
i.e. $50 can buy 50/4 = 12.5 gallons

1 Gallons is good for 32 miles
i.e. 12.5 Gallons is good for 12.5*32 = 400 miles

MAGOOSH OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

To get from dollars to gallons, we have to start with the $50, and divide by ($4/gallon) — that cancels the unit of dollars, and leaves us with gallons —– 50/4 gallons. (For the moment, I’ll leave it as that un-simplified fraction).

Now, we need to get from gallons to distance. We multiply by (32 miles/gallon), to cancel the units of gallons, and leave only miles —-

(50/4) gallons*(32 miles/gallon) = (32*50)/4 miles = (8*50) miles = 400 miles

Notice, we didn’t do anything with the four in the denominator until we got a 32 in the numerator with which we could cancel.

Answer = (C)

Hi All,

The answers to this question are so 'spread out' that you can answer it with just a little bit of arithmetic and some estimation.

We're given 3 facts to work with:
1) A car gets 32 miles per gallon.
2) Gas costs $4/gallon
3) Dan buys $50 worth of gas

We're asked how many miles Dan can travel with this car on this amount of gas.

Since gas costs $4/gallon, 10 gallons would cost $40. Since we spent a bit more than $40, we have a bit more than 10 gallons of gas.
Since the car gets 32 miles per gallon, 10 gallons would get us 320 miles. We have a bit more gas, so we traveled a bit more than 320 miles.

There's only one answer that makes any sense under these conditions...

Final Answer:
GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
