Best thing to do here is to chop up the figure. It's clear that two rectangles can be made from the figure if one were to just extend the line of the side where the 3 is. Then find the area of the individual rectangles.

Focus on the rectangle
12 * 10 = 120
and then the smaller one i.e.
7 * 8 = 56
thus area is 120 + 56 = 176
