Certain task was completed in three hours. 2/9 of the task was completed during the first hour and 2/3 was completed during the third hour, the work completed during the second hour is what fraction of the work completed in the third hour?

A. 1/18
B. 4/27
C. 1/9
D. 1/6
E. 1/2
Let x = work done in the second hour

\(\frac{2}{9}\) + x + \(\frac{2}{3}\)\(= 1\), so

\(2 + 9x + 6 = 9\)

\(9x = 1\)

\(x = \frac{1}{9}\)

Work completed in second hour is what fraction of work completed in the third hour, i.e. \(\frac{2nd hr}{3rd hr}\)

=\(\frac{1}{9}\) divided by \(\frac{2}{3}\)

= (\(\frac{1}{9} * \frac{3}{2})= \frac{3}{18}= \frac{1}{6}\)

Answer D

Easy one.
1st: 2/9
3rd: 2/3
=> 2nd = 1 - 2/9 - 2/3 = 1/9
2nd/3rd = (1/9) / (2/3) = 1/6
=> D

A. 1/18
B. 4/27
C. 1/9
D. 1/6
E. 1/2

Let the total work be 9

Work completed in first hour = 2 units
Work completed in third hour = 6 units
Remaining work was completed in the 2nd Hours = 9 - ( 6 + 2 ) => 1 unit..

Thus, in the third hour 1/9 part of the work was completed, answer will be (D)
