Simply set-up a proportion:

3/4.83 = x / 11.27

When dividing decimals multiply both terms by 100. We find 7.

If 3 miles are equivalent to 4.83 kilometers, then 11.27 kilometers are equivalent to how many miles?

(A) 2
(B) 5
(C) 7
(D) 6 1/2
(E) 7 1/3

4.83 km = 3 miles
1 km = 3/4.83 miles
11.27 km = 11.27 • 3/4.83 miles
11.27•300/483=11.27•100/161=1127/161=161/23=7 (23*10=230, 23*[5]=115, 115+(23*[2])=161=23*[7])

We can create the proportion:

3/4.83 = n/11.27

33.81 = 4.83n

7 = n

We may feel that the problem expects us to do a difficult calculation (11.27/4.83) but it doesn't (Such big divisions are usually tiresome).

First thing to note is that since 4.83 km is 3 miles, more than double of that (11.27 miles) will certainly be more than 6 miles.
We have 3 options of more than 6 miles and only one of them is an integer.

No. of miles \(= \frac{11.27}{4.83} * 3 \)

Since 483 is divisible by 3,
No of miles \(= \frac{1127}{161} \)

Now, if the answer is 7, 1127 must be 161 * 7. A quick calculation shows that it is. Had it turned out to be more than 1127, then we would have known that the answer is 6 1/2. Had it turned out to be less than 1127, we would have know that the answer is 7 1/3.

This was my approach but I am not sure if it is OK
3 mi = 4,83 km- Then 6 mi = 9,66 km and 9 mi = 14,49 km
Then answer choices A and B are out. We know it is less than 9 miles...
14,49 - 11,27 = 3,2
3,2/4,8 = 2/3. And 2/3 of 3 miles is 2 miles
9 miles - 2 miles = 7 miles

Please correct me if I am wrong
