Mr. Gifford wishes to put 372 eggs into cartons that can hold 12 eggs each. If he has 50 empty cartons and completely fills as many of them as possible with the 327 eggs, how many of the cartons will remain empty?

(A) 12
(B) 15
(C) 19
(D) 28

Cartons that will remain empty=Total no of empty cartons-Total no of filled cartons
=50-\(\frac{372}{12}\)=50-31=19
Ans. (C)

P.S:-I have assumed that Mr. Gifford completely fills as many of them as possible with the 372 eggs instead of 327.

12 eggs in each carton.
As, given 12*50 = 600. Half of 600 = 300. So, 300 eggs in 25 cartons.
Remaining 72 / 12 = 6
Total carton used = 25 + 6 = 31

Empty carton = 50 - 31 = 19

Ans : C

No of empty cartoons required is \(\frac{372}{12} = 31\) Cartoons

No of cartoons left is 50 - 31 = 19 Cartoons, Answer must be (C) 19
